On August 5, 2020, Synovus made a $1 million donation to the UNCF to fund a scholarship program that will be named for Bro. Calvin Smyre. Bro. Smyre has represented Columbus-Muscogee County in the Georgia House of Representatives since 1974, and was initiated into Omega through Lambda Iota Chapter in Columbus.

“One scholarship annually will be designated for a student enrolled at Smyre’s beloved alma mater, Fort Valley State University (FVSU), an HBCU in Fort Valley, GA, where he serves as Chairman of the FVSU Foundation.”
