Atlanta is ready to make history! PDF Print E-mail

In August 2010, Atlanta will take the next step in becoming a truly diverse, vibrant, and exciting destination for tourist, new residents and long time natives; as a new tradition begins:

The Down ā€˜n’ Dirty Championship Rodeo
at Philips Arena
August 21, 2010

Imagine the sight of 200 to 300 Cowboys and Cowgirls from all backgrounds riding their steeds through our metropolitan streets on a three mile trail ride from Turner Field to Philips Arena, led by our new chief of police and his/her mounted legion; followed by representatives from prestigious organizations such as business and medical professional groups, equestrian teams, and non-profit organizations, civic organizations, sororities and fraternities.

Envision 16,000 people from around the southeast, the nation and the world hollering in our landmark arena as champion horsemen show off their virtuosic rodeo skills and the DJ spins both Hip Hop and Country Western sounds. Hear the laughter as the clowns come out to play. Feel the groove as the celebrity performer steals center stage.

Appreciate the impact on the identity and cultural awareness of 5,000 urban school children as they observe, in awe, the spectacular showmanship of men and women that break through the limited stereotypes of who and what they can become. Realize the importance of using this "good time" to raise awareness about the critical incline of prostate cancer, encourage early health screenings, and solicit contributions for research that will find a cure.

Southern K Ranch, Inc. is a non-profit (501c3) organization that has produced successful rodeos on their 26 acre Atlanta ranch for 10 years and reached maximum capacity with annual attendance of 3,000 people from around the region. In 2010, they will leverage their skill, network, reputation and resources to fill the growing demand for multicultural rodeos in the southeast by producing this historic event:

  • the first rodeo at Philips Arena
  • the largest rodeo Atlanta has ever hosted
  • the most culturally diverse rodeo in the region

The Georgia State Council of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. has gone on record as supporting this organizations fundraising efforts to help eradicate Prostrate Cancer. The State embraces this project as a State wide health initiative; since many of our members throughout the State of Georgia have or have been diagnosed with this disease, which we all know if caught earlier enough is curable.
